Ernie obtained his Bachelor of Law from the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Law, in 1974 (LL.B.). Prior to law school, he graduated from Carleton University in 1971 with a Degree in Political Science and English (B.A.). He was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1976.

He joined the firm in 2004 as an Associate. He was then appointed as Counsel in 2009. Ernie is also the co-founder of REACH and has been Honorary Counsel for dozens of charitable and non-governmental organizations. His past professional experiences include being the Co-Founder and Executive Director for the Canadian Institute for Conflict Resolution (CICR) (1989-1992) and working as a Mediator with the ADR Centre.

His practice areas include various areas of the law such as Family Law, Business Law, Corporate Law, Civil Litigation, Charities Law, Alternative Dispute Resolution, and Instructing Solicitor to Barristers. Ernie also offers his services to the public as a Chartered Mediator, with an accreditation from the ADR Institute of Canada. He is the current President of the Ottawa Chapter for the Ontario Association for Family Mediation (OAFM).

He has vast experience with all types of mediations, arbitrations and various other kinds of alternative dispute resolutions. He is the author of “Alternative Dispute Resolution That Works”, published by Captus Press York University Campus in 1989, which was the first book on this subject in Canada. He is currently working on a sequel book and his first book is being edited for republication, for release later this year. Ernie is on the approved list of Court-Connected Mediators in the City of Ottawa. Ernie received the designation of Chartered Mediator (C. Med.) from the ADR Institute of Canada in 1996. He has also been a co-host for a weekly show called ADR Weekly Series on CHIN Radio since February 2004 with Gary Michaels, Station Manager, which won 2 consecutive national Canadian Ethnic Media Association (CEMA) awards (2007-2008).
